Cinemaquette Presents: Voronoid Toucan and Web Spider
Story
On the edge of the industrial and natural world, a change is happening and we call them “Mechanical Mutants.”
In this area, a codependent relationship is working between a natural bird called ìThe Ground Toucanî and a mechanical insect called a “Web Spider.” Connecting both of them is a mechanical mutant plant called a “Shining Nut.”
Shining Nut
A “Mechanical Mutants” nut with natural body and something glittering on it
Ground toucan
Itís a small size toucan that canít fly. They collect and eat the”shining nut” also reserving nuts in their nest for the ìweb spiderî.
Web spider
They have a queen, and a similar social structure to ants. The spiders do not create a web, instead they interlock their bodies to build up the web, which is also the nest for “ground toucan.” Itís an overly weak and careful mechanical animal.
In the deep of the nest, there is a spider factory where a Queen spider manages the production of new “web spiders.” The glittering things on the “shining nut” is the most important component in production.
Artists:
Udagawa Yasuhito
Born in Tokyo. After graduating from university he worked in an architect’s office for 7 years.
Since 1996 he has created studio works of art and also goes by the artist named “Craft Factory SHOVEL HEAD”.
Concept behind the work
I create life objects, such as insects, fish and animals sometimes from my imagination. I use papier-mache and wires to create the body. After painting with lacquer paint, I decorate with metal and electric parts such as bolts, nuts and other items. Our life is getting more convenient with technological advances. On the other hand, so much material is wasted. If life forms evolve like machines, they might be called “Mechanical Mutants”
David Zhou
Origin represents the combination of imaginary and authentic animals from nature.
This style of art from David Zhou presents a virtual animal world, following the concept of “The Origin of Species.” By continuing to add more animals from exotic lands, skies and oceans, we will explore a rich world with their lifestyle and environmental roles. David Zhou is a traditional animal sculptor and designer of imaginary animals who lives in Shanghai with his family.
