BANG BANG! Collection N°4
For this 47th account of the adventures of Lucky Luke (and 30th album published by Dupuis in 1967), Morris and Goscinny will take an interest in Martha Jane Cannary, better known as Calamity Jane. They thus take up a recipe that has already worked several times before: to cross the road of our hero with those of characters who really existed (Judge Roy Bean, the Daltons brothers or Billy The Kid to name but a few examples). It is on his way to El Plomo to elucidate a case of arms trafficking that Lucky Luke will therefore meet Calamity Jane. Around a coffee, the already famous Calamity Jane will tell her story to Lucky Luke. In a few flashback vignettes, we quickly understand that we are dealing with a colorful and strong character. And if Calamity Jane refuses the tobacco offered to her by Luke, it’s not out of coquetry. It’s just that she prefers chewing quid ! It is with Morris’s lively and expressive drawings in mind that David has given volume to this encounter. And always with a radical approach : volumes, dynamism, treatment of folds and colorization are exclusively at the service of the Art of Morris.
