Lithe and agile, the silvan elf prince Legolas Greenleaf wore little in the way of protection except a pair of vambraces made from thick, strong leather. Offering scant defense against club or sword, the vambraces offer just enough protection to keep his forearms shielded from bow strings and knife cuts and allow Legolas to continue fighting in his inimitably dynamic style.
On Weta’s vambrace, closely modelled on the ones worn by Legolas in The Hobbit movies, an elven vine motif is embossed on rag dyed cowhide. It has been distressed and hand polished to create the mottled greenish brown hues and textures of the woodland realm under the canopies of Mirkwood. This is a hand made natural product with unique colour and texture variations, made in Wellington, New Zealand. A perfect accessory for an elven costume, for reenactment purposes or for budding archers, these vambraces are very tactile, beautiful to look at and have that genuine leather smell. Weta’s vambrace was created by the same talented artists and craftsmen who created leatherwork for the 3Foot7 art department on The Hobbit movies.
