After the Downfall of Númenór, Elendil formed an alliance with Gil-galad, the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. They marched on Barad-dûr where Sauron was defeated. Gil-galad, however, like Elendil, met his death in that war after a 3,514 year reign. You will have seen Gil-galad and his shield in the prologue of The Lord Of The Rings – The Fellowship Of The Ring. Weta has previously produced a bust of Gil-galad.
