Saga is said to be the most powerful of the Gold saints, he actually secretly took the place of the Great Pope. He also happens to be one of the most charismatic and popular character of the franchise due his great background history. Despite his power and madness, the man is also cool and thoughtful. Our main challenge with our statue was to find the finest balance to express every side of this mysterious man.
We decided to set him standing, with a slight side view, watching an unseen threat and holding his helmet in his left hand. You will find this statue to be the perfect continuance of what we did with Ikki in the Saint Seiya HQS range.
Technical details:
The head is slightly tilted, so it strenghtens Saga’s look. A great deal of work has been achieved with the modeling of the hair. The painting is set in several gradients starting from the tip of the lock. The skin is also done with three tone of gradients from the base color.
The Cloth
Gemini’s Gold Cloth has a lot of small details as the arabesques on the helmet or the greaves. Moreover, unlike the Bronze Cloth, the Gold ones are with only one range of color : Golden. Hence, the challenge is to achieve rendering each part of the Cloth so the whole is realistic and easy on the eye. The gold effect is done by applying metal painting and vernish to get a visual result stunning, and highlighted by the contrast with the base.
Technical details:
The golden metallic paints are really great, especially with the use of the air brush to get some realistic and natural lights and shadows. The color set of the Cloth is based upon three different shades of gold, depending of the Cloth part. Added to the gradients and light effects, the final result is really stuning.
Base
A Gold Saint is to be in his temple in the Sanctuary, to ensure the safety of the goddess Athena. That’s why we chose to stage Saga on the paving of the Temple of Gemini.
Technical details:
The paving of the inside of the Temple of Gemini looks like a very regular dark marble. We decided to go with a base of pitch black with some subtle touch of blue in the grooves so we can reproduce the shining effect of the stone as you can see it in some of the show.
The base is very dark which create a major contrast with the Gold Cloth. It brings a balance to the whole and emphatizes Saga. Of course, you will find on the base our now regular plate, bevelled and with a metal effect. But since Saga is a Gold Saint, his plate is golden as it will be for any other Gold Saint to come.
