This poster was produced for the 1978 summer re-release of Star Wars. This famous poster was painted by Charlie White III and Drew Struzan. Struzan would go on to be one of the most prolific Star Wars painters for Lucasfilm creating more posters, book covers, and various other artwork.
It is reported that the A New Hope Style D poster is one of George Lucas’ favorite Star Wars posters. Rumor has it that the original artwork is hung in Lucas’ house. He liked the circus feel of it. It looks as if the poster if peeling right off a wooden fence. The idea of making this poster appear to be pasted on a fence came out of necessity. When Strutzan and White got to the billing there wasn’t enough room for all the credits so they had to figure out a way to make more space; hence the circus look. This circus style poster is one of the few to feature the Jawas, the landspeeder, and stormtroopers; not to mention Darth Vader with a Dracula-type cape.
All the detail of this unique poster has been captured by sculptors in hand painted; quality cold cast resin. Each element of this unique 1978 release has been replicated with precision sculpting creating the very best in relief artistry. The detail of this poster is incredible, this new three dimensional format shows in exquisite detail each of the classic poster’s iconic elements, from the dramatic renderings of Luke and Leia to Vader, the Jawas and even the stormtroopers. Many hours were spent and much care was taken bringing this poster into this new format, never sacrificing the look of the original poster art.
