In 2013, Pop Culture Shock Collectibles released their very first 1:1 scale bust, the award-winning Sub-Zero, as he appeared in Mortal Kombat (2011).
Three years later, they will up the stakes yet again with their next generation of life-sized pieces, and who better to slide-kick things off than Kuai Liang, as he now appears in Mortal Kombat X!
Freed of Quan Chi’s manipulations, Sub-Zero has ended his epic feud with Scorpion and become Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, leading his warriors into battle against the forces of Outworld with a functional new look that reflects his restored humanity.
“Going into that first meeting at Warner Bros, I was a little apprehensive,” Jerry Macaluso, President of Pop Culture Shock, tells us. “Sub-Zero’s design in Mortal Kombat 9 was just about perfect, and I wasn’t sure it could be improved upon. It took all of 5 minutes to assuage any doubts, and I think I was already envisioning this piece in the elevator back down to the car. He had some big 1:1 scale boots to fill.”
Standing 30″ (76cm) tall , the Mortal Kombat X Sub-Zero Life-size Bust is created using both traditional hand sculpting as well as the actual 3D in-game files. This towering collectible comes on a museum-style pedestal base, giving Sub-Zero a frosty translucent iceberg to rest upon.
Individually painted and finished with Pop Culture Shock’s handcrafted quality and attention to detail, all eyes will be drawn to him, the instant centerpiece of any collection. No mere Sub-Zero piece, he can only be called the Absolute Sub-Zero.
